Sebelum Sekarang

I get bored quite easily.

Eh, hubungan apa dulu nih?
Jadi judulnya aku sekarang sudah In a Relationship.
(Hore! Sebentar lagi anniversary pertama lho!)
Boleh saja empat hingga lima tahun lalu aku berganti pasangan setiap melewatkan Ramadhan. Tapi bagaimana dengan sekarang? Time to move on, dude, pindah sajalah ke ’jalur lambat’.

Oh, no. Wait a minute.
”It’s Complicated”, katamu? Hah, that was so 2005 ! Masa jaya-jayanya Friendster tuh.

Tapi kalau sekarang?

Jawabannya sebenarnya mudah banget.
Kan sudah diberikan di awal tulisan ini.

Get it ? ;-))

Love. At Any Cost.

Ku menatap langit malam mendung tanpa bintang

Kubiarkan pikiranku bebas terbang melayang

Benakku bertanya kapan Cintaku datang

Dalam pelukan hangatku, kuingin dia pulang

all my love for R.
at any cost.

Post Script:
This love poem dated back to March 17, 2006,
when it was first published online in my previous blog,
LoveHateDreamsLifeWorkPlayFriendshipSex,
and dedicated to the one I once love so much,
my center of the universe,
R.

One More Time, One More Chance

I'm always searching for your figure to appear somewhere
On the opposite platform, in the windows off the street,
Even though I know you couldn't be at such a place
If my wish were to come true, I would go to your side right now
There would be nothing I couldn't do
I would put everything on the line and hold you tight

If I just wanted to avoid loneliness, anybody would have been enough
Because the night looks like the stars will fall, I cannot lie to myself
One more time, oh seasons, fade not
One more time, when we were messing around

I'm always searching for your figure to appear somewhere
At a street crossing, or in the midst of dreams
Even though I know you couldn't be at such a place
If a miracle were to happen here, I would show you right away
The new morning who I'll be from now on
And the words I never said: "I love you"

The memories of summer are revolving
The throbbing which suddenly disappeared

I'm always searching for your figure to appear somewhere
In the town at dawn, at Sakuragi-cho
Even though I know you wouldn't come to such place

If my wish were to come true, I would go to your side right now
There would be nothing I couldn't do
I would put everything on the line and hold you tight

I'm always searching for fragments of you to appear somewhere
In a stone during my travels, in the corner of a newspaper
Even though I know you couldn't be at such a place
If a miracle were to happen here, I would show you right away
The new morning who I'll be from now on
And the words I never said "I love you"

I always end up looking for your smile to appear somewhere
At the railroad crossing waiting for the express to pass
Even though I know you couldn't be at such a place
If our lives could be repeated, I would be at your side everytime
I would want nothing else
Nothing matters except for you

Whatever Happened to The English Patient ?

After spending more than three years struggling, reading and re-reading the so-called sophisticated level of English using in the award-winning critically-acclaimed The English Patient novel written by Michael Ondaatje given by my friend Astrid Reza Widjaja who brought it straight from Melbourne, which I started reading on Easter of 2002, I proudly claimed that I finally finished with it on May 2005 (since many people found it as a tough-read).

There was still one thing that really confused me after finished reading the final chapter.
I know that Kirpal Singh a.k.a Kip the sapper went back to India after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and then married with two children, while Hana the nurse went back to Toronto after the war and live sadly by herself, nothing mentioned on the fate of Caravaggio the thief-cum-spy; but what bothered me much was that there wasn't any explanation available about the nameless-burned English-accented man (which was why he was known to others as the English Patient), even though the main character in that novel is supposed to be him.

The movie, which adapted from the novel by the gifted director/scriptwriter Anthony Minghella, showed us that Hana killed Almasy by overdosing him with morphine, which was actually requested by him (i.e. euthanasia). But there was nothing about (or similar to) it mentioned in the novel.

Was Mr. Minghella took the liberty from Mr. Ondaatje to explain some things that were not explained in his book?

All I know is that Mr. Ondaatje didn’t mind with that other ending version since I once searched all over the web to find any objection of Mr. Minghella’s twisted plot, and found none.

Maybe Hana, Kip and Caravaggio abandoned the paralysed Almasy by himself lying on his death-bed inside Vila San Girolamo ...

Maybe the Allied troops had taken over the English patient into their custody, and there he was in The Hague, waiting for his trial as a war-criminal ...

Or maybe, just like the suggested movie-plot, Hana did help Almasy committed euthanasia ...
